I am Dr. Kara Alexzander, a licensed acupuncturist nationally and in California, holding the credentials DACM, CNC, LAc. Since 1998, I have been dedicated to practicing alternative medicine and promoting natural forms of healing. My personal journey began with my own physical ailments, including chronic fatigue, chronic pain, digestive dysfunction, Lyme disease, nine broken bones, and emotional traumas. Overcoming these challenges not only allowed me to regain my health but also gave me a deeper understanding of the struggles faced by others.

Initially, my Western medical doctor prescribed prescription drugs for each of my health issues, following the typical approach in Western medicine. However, I soon realized that this approach was not sustainable or a long-term solution. It merely provided temporary relief without addressing the underlying symptoms and pain. I was determined to achieve full recovery and this realization sparked a profound shift in my life's mission.

My original degree was in Environmental Studies from University of Colorado at Boulder studying environmental and social impacts on health.  Once I graduated, I studied nutrition at the Institute of Healing Nutrition in Encinitas, Ca and at the Academy of Healing Nutrition in NY, New York with adjunct cooking classes at the CIA in Poughkeepsie, NY.  I received my doctorate summa cum laude at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.

My areas of specialization are:  stress management; energy balancing; endocrine issues; digestive discomfort; acute and chronic pain; food and menu organizing: weight gain/loss; emotional imbalances and trauma release.

When I'm not in the office attending to my patients, you'll often find me exploring the beautiful hiking trails in San Diego, accompanied by my beloved canine companions. I cherish these moments and make the most of every opportunity to connect with nature.

I am excited to announce the addition of Justin Flores to the practice. Justin brings with him a unique skill set as a former professional dancer and orthopedically trained practitioner, which greatly enhances our ability to address body balancing concerns.

We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with you and share these incredible solutions for your health and well-being.

Justin Flores, L.Ac - Orthopedic Specialist

As a ballet dancer I had a 20 year professional performance career.  During my years on stage in New York and San Francisco I entrusted my body to treatment modalities such as Acupuncture, Tui Na, Rolfing, Neuromuscular Re-education (NMR), and Neurokinetic Therapy®.  As an acupuncturist and NMR practitioner I've had great success working with some of the country's top dance artists.
I believe that chronic pain often has its origins in the brain's strategies for refining movement and creating stability.  This work found solutions to persistent problems I was experiencing while returning to the stage after a second ankle surgery.  The change it made in my state of being is in large part why I became a practitioner.
I currently practice in beautiful San Diego, CA  both in private practice and as company therapist to the California Ballet.  If you are experiencing chronic pain or muscle "weakness" after an injury, surgery, childbirth, or from your favorite physical activity, or if you are looking to better your balance and strength as a dancer, fighter, or an athlete, I can help.
