FAQs

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

When performed by a qualified and well-trained practitioner, acupuncture is one of the safest treatment options available today. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body at specific points to facilitate the body's own healing process. It is a natural therapy with virtually no negative side effects. Many patients say it is their "favorite time of the week".

IF YOU HAVE NEVER HAD ACUPUNCTURE AND DONT LIKE NEEDLES:

Acupuncture needles are MUCH thinner compared to when you have blood drawn.  Many will not even feel the insertion of the acupuncture needle. With that said, please let us know you are nervous as we want to make sure you are comfortable and have a good experience.  We will work with you through the entire process.  We are told we are very gentle. :-)

PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT ACUPUNCTURE APPOINTMENT:

Do not have any alcohol prior to your treatment AND let us know if you are pregnant (or think you might be), have a pacemaker, or are taking any blood thinners.

IF I AM RECEIVING OTHER TYPES OF TREATMENTS, IS ACUPUNCTURE STILL SOMETHING I WANT TO PURSUE?

Yes.  Combining acupuncture with chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy or any other related modality is incredibly powerful and effective.  All treatments can assist with healing from acute or chronic trauma (physical and emotional), digestive issues, neuropathy, memory issues, libido, visual impairment, and MANY more.  Acupuncture also complements “conventional” treatment.  Western and Eastern Medicine approach ailments differently, yet, both can be highly effective depending on the issue.  Eastern medicine takes an integrative approach looking at the entire body and symptoms to diagnose patterns.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

This depends on the symptoms/problem.  Typically, 1x/week for four weeks is a good starting point and reevaluated from there.

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE WITH PREGNANCY?

Yes, Acupuncture is safe for pregnant women and will even provide many benefits for the health of mom and baby.  It works very well for nausea, pain, water retention, and emotional balancing.

WHAT ARE CHINESE HERBS AND ARE THEY SAFE?

Herbs are generally gentle and natural (herbs prescribed are typically 100% organic with many of them produced in the USA) and therefore often require more time days to demonstrate their full effect. Chinese herbal remedies may be prescribed in raw form, granules, concentrated capsules or tea pills.  Careful attention is always paid to dosage, combination of herbs, as well as, any known drug-herb interactions.

DO WE ACCEPT INSURANCE?

At this time we do not accept insurance; HOWEVER, we can give a 'superbill' to patients for reimbursement from your insurance company.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

You will receive an email confirmation after you have booked an appointment and an appointment reminder prior to your visit. We require 24 hours notice so that we may make that time spot available to another patient. Cancellations within 24 hours notice will be assessed a $20 cancellation fee.   If you are running late, please let us know.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to treat you after a 15 minute tardiness - we do this because it takes away from YOUR treatment experience.
